Acoustic noise interferometry experiment in the Florida Straits. (a) Maps show the observation area with bathymetry contours and positions (black circles) of the autonomous noise recording systems 1, 2, and 3 deployed in December 2012. The contour interval is 100 m. (b) Shipborne dual-frequency acoustic Doppler current profiler (ADCP) measurements, from the deployment cruise, of the eastward (panels 1 and 2) and northward (panels 3 and 4) components of current velocity. 600 kHz measurements (panels 1 and 3) yield current estimates in the 2–10 m depth range, while 75 kHz measurements (panels 2 and 4) yield current estimates in the 10–70 m depth range. Three time intervals, when the ship was in the vicinity of the noise recording systems, are indicated by black bars.
