Thematic series on Historical and Geological Studies of Earthquakes

Geoscience Letters welcomes submissions to the new thematic series "Historical and Geological Studies of Earthquakes".

Time interval of instrumental seismology is only about one hundred years, too short to cover the recurrence interval of large or great earthquakes and to understand seismicity of particular area or the entire globe. Historical and geological research on earthquakes makes it possible to prolong the time period of seismic data, although their parameters are less accurate and/or incomplete relatively. This special collections aims to combine three different seismic research domains: modern, historical and paleoseismology, which have been separately discussed, in fruitful interdisciplinary approach. The special collections includes review papers of historical and geological earthquake studies in Asian and European countries as well as some topical research papers on this subject.

Potential topics include, but are not limited to:

  • Earthquakes
  • Instrumental seismology
  • Paleoseismology
  • Geological earthquake studies
  • Historical earthquakes
  • Historical seismology

Submission instructions
Before submitting your manuscript, please ensure you have carefully read the Instructions for Authors for Geoscience Letters. The complete manuscript should be submitted through the Geoscience Letters submission system. To ensure that you submit to the correct thematic series please select the appropriate section in the drop-down menu upon submission. In addition, indicate within your cover letter that you wish your manuscript to be considered as part of the thematic series on History and development of solar terrestrial sciences including auroral substorms. All submissions will undergo rigorous peer review and accepted articles will be published within the journal as a collection.

Length of articles: 3000–5000 words for Research Letters and ~10,000 words for Reviews including figures which are counted 200 to 500 words depending on size.

Deadline for submissions: closed (1st December 2016)
